Zeeland on foot

On Schouwen-Duiveland you’ll find plenty of walking trails—short or long, past historic buildings or through beautiful nature reserves. A popular option is the 12.1 km dune route in Renesse. Tip: bring binoculars; at low tide you can spot seals on the offshore sandbanks.

Want to meet the animals of Schouwen-Duiveland? Then choose the walking route through the Boswachterij Westerschouwen. On this route, Shetland ponies and horses graze. You might also encounter a flock of sheep. Want to see a deer or fallow deer? Then you'll need a bit of luck. Look carefully at the wildlife tracks you come across along the way.

Zeeland by bike

Cycle past the Plompe Toren, towards the Oosterscheldekering or through the forest to Burgh-Haamstede and enjoy beautiful views over sea and polder. The Oosterschelde is the largest National Park in the Netherlands – a unique nature area where you can spot seals and porpoises at the tide. A popular cycling route is 'From harbour to harbour'. This route connects seven beautiful harbours and lets you experience how land and water on the island are inextricably linked. Along the way you'll learn more about the history, hear personal stories from residents and enjoy the special landscape.
